The Cost of a Lie
π Proverbs 19:5 (NKJV)
βA false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape.β
My Dear Children,
The Bible speaks clearly about the seriousness of lying. A lie may seem small in the beginning, but it carries consequences. Scripture teaches that dishonesty does not simply disappear; it produces results.
In Genesis 27, Jacob lied to his father to receive a blessing. Though he gained something temporarily, his deception brought division, fear, and years of separation from his family. One lie created long-term pain.
Colossians 3:9 instructs us, βDo not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds.β Truthfulness is part of our new life in Christ. Lying belongs to the old nature.
Relevance to Life and Family
When children lie about schoolwork or behavior, trust is weakened. When parents are not truthful, stability in the home suffers. Lies often create more lies as we try to cover the first one.
A family that understands the cost of dishonesty learns to choose truth, even when it is uncomfortable.
Family Reflection
Why do lies often lead to more problems?
What can we learn from Jacobβs story?
How can we make honesty the standard in our home?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help our family understand the seriousness of dishonesty. Teach us to value truth even when it is difficult. Guard our hearts and lips from speaking falsely. In Jesusβ name, Amen.
