Guarding the Tongue

πŸ“– Psalm 141:3 (NKJV)

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.

My Dear Children,
King David prayed that God would guard his mouth. He understood that controlling our words is not always easy. Sometimes we speak quickly, without thinking, and our words can cause harm.

The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 13:3 that β€œhe who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. Careful speech protects us from many troubles.

James 3:8 also reminds us that the tongue can be difficult to control. Because of this, we need God’s help to guide what we say.

Relevance to Life and Family
In families, words are spoken every day in many situations. When we learn to pause, think, and choose our words carefully, we create an environment of respect and peace.

Parents who guard their words teach children how to communicate with wisdom and kindness.

Family Reflection
Why is it sometimes difficult to control our words?
How can we ask God to help us guard our speech?
What can we do before speaking when we feel upset?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help our family guard our mouths and choose our words wisely. Teach us to pause before speaking and to use words that bring peace and understanding. Guide our speech so that it honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
